School Advisory Councils (SAC)

About the SAC

School Advisory Councils (SAC) are intended to give parents a say in what’s going on at school, from policies to extra-curricular programs, fundraising and more. The SAC brings partners together to make decisions and solve problems in the best interest of student learning. All partners on the SAC have a voice so that the needs of students are represented and the school is responsive to the community it serves.

The fundamental purpose of the SAC is to ensure that all students receive the best possible learning opportunities by engaging partners in an ongoing process of problem solving and shared decision making. These councils are formed of parent representatives, community members, school staff and teachers in response to a hands on approach with education.

In accordance with the Education Act, each school within the Halifax Regional Centre for Educatino has a School Advisory Council. Under the Act, the SAC has certain legislated responsibilities.

More information can be found on the HRCE https://www.hrce.ca/about-hrce/school-administration/school-advisory-councils

At BSS the SAC meets monthly, a minimum 6 times/year. We currently have 6 elected members who serve for various lengths of terms.
